European Commission approves Honeywell’s acquisition of Intermec

On 14 June 2013 the European Commission cleared the proposed acquisition of Intermec by Honeywell (both U.S. entities).  Intermec manufactures and supplies barcode scanners and ruggedized mobile computers.

The Commission assessed the possible anticompetitive effects within the ruggedized mobile computer, barcode scanner, and scanning engine markets, as well as the possible vertical relationships of the parties in voice recognition software.  In all cases, the Commission concluded that due to the presence of other competitors/suppliers of scanning engines in the market, competition would not be significantly impeded within the European Economic Area.
